I have been trying for the past year to buy only Canadian products and produce. Where those aren't available, I've found European, South American, or Asian equivalents.
This year I was unable to find any non-US sweet potatoes for Christmas dinner, so I cooked up locally-grown butternut squash instead, with butter and brown sugar. And it was almost the same as sweet potatoes and really yummy.
This summer I'll plant sweet potatoes in the garden so I have some for next winter, but I'll also be adding butternut squash to the menu. I'm very pleased with how it turned out.
